In the picturesque town of Olhos D'Água, in Goiás, lives Fátima Bastos, better known as Fatinha, an artisan who turns corn straw into sacred images. For her, crafts are a family heritage. The raw material comes from the corn that is grown by Fatinha herself, on her own property. She plants different seeds that give rise to straw of varied colors and she also makes use of other plants from the “cerrado” and its fibers, flowers, gourds, etc. Her angels, saints and nativity images make a big success in fairs and exhibitions and have already won some prizes.
