From 9 to 13 November 2017, the 14th World Fair Trade Organization Conference took place in New Delhi, India. Bio Fair Trade, as an effective member, could not be left out. A team of four people was sent to the Indian capital to represent not only the company, but also Brazil. Many artisans from various parts of Brazil were able to have their products exhibited during the conference, which featured organizations from all continents, including producers, buyers, vendors, supporters and others.
This is the largest global gathering of Fair Trade representatives, held every two years, and offers workshops, plenary sessions and great opportunities to make contacts and partnerships. There were 5 days of much learning, discussion and networking. Topics such as Living Wage and Fair Trade Towns have been discussed. Important names such as environmentalist Vandana Shiva and Ambiente’s vice-president Nicolette Naumann spoke about their experiences and visions for a fair and sustainable future.
Some Brazilian products marketed by Bio Fair Trade competed for the Mohammed Islam Design Awards, which chose the best fair trade products in the categories Homeware, Fashion, Christmas Decoration, Food / Beverage Packaging and Recycled. Bio competed in four of these categories, giving visibility to the groups Fatinha Fibras & Fios, from Goiás; Bio Nobre, from the Amazonas; Mulheres de Argila, from Pernambuco; and Valdete Reis, from Espírito Santo.
