Between 8 and 10 December 2016, Bio Fair Trade participated in an audit of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) in order to become an effective member of the organization and to certify companies that meet the growing demand for ethical and sustainable products. A series of visits were made to various artisan groups in the state of Pernambuco, in cities such as Recife, Camaragibe, Caruaru and Gravatá.
Bio Fair Trade has been a provisional member of the WFTO since 2013. In order to become a member, it is necessary to meet a number of requirements and undergo an inspection process to ensure that the company and the production groups associated with it actually comply with the principles of Fair Trade. At the end of the process, Bio may earn the right to use the Fair Trade Label. This label allows consumers to identify handcrafted products and stringent foods that meet economic, social and environmental criteria.
